OF ALL THINGS IN THIS WORLD, I BELIEVE THIS TO BE THE MOST FRIGHTENING OF ALL, by L Hardesty.
I believe the Bible. The Bible says numerous times that there is a Heaven, and a Hell. You may not have read the Bible and have chosen to believe that neither Heaven or Hell exists, that is your right. God gives everyone the right to decide for themselves how they will live, and what they believe.
I had a very good friend, his name was Steve. Steve did not believe in anything that the Bible said. To him, not only was there no Heaven or Hell, but there was no God or Satan. He went as far as to believe that “good” and “bad” were one in the same. In other words, life was whatever you made of it, and every decision you made was yours to make, and none of them were right or wrong. Steve was a very good and thoughtful person. I haven’t seen or heard from him for several years, but during the time we spent together, he was what I called a “moral person”. We had many discussions about the Bible and its validity. Probably the main topic we talked about was whether or not Hell really existed. During one of our discussions, he admitted that he wasn’t really sure if God did or didn’t exist. When I questioned him about why he had doubts about God, he replied that the way that the Bible describes God “wasn’t logical”. He further explained that God (being royalty with unlimited power) would never come down to earth and die for worthless people like him. It just wasn’t logical for anyone to have that much love for another. He based his belief that there was no Hell on the fact that there might not be a God because it wasn’t logical or someone like that to actually exist, and, therefore, no Hell either.
Steve and I are both artist. Both of us get enormous gratification from anything that deals with creativity. In fact, that is how we met. Steve was an artist (designer) who worked for me in my advertising and print business. I admired his creativity greatly, and felt lucky to have someone of his ability working for me. I don’t know where Steve is today. I sold the business in 1993, and we went our separate ways. I don’t know how much of an impression our talks made on him, but I think of him often and what he had said to me.
Perhaps you have difficulty in believing or understanding God and His Word (the Bible). It is simple, but most people, at first, find it hard to accept. No matter what it is that keeps you from thinking about God, the truth is that He does exist and so does Heaven and Hell. Like Steve, ignoring or denying their existence won’t keep you from going there at your death. To everyone, death is real, and what then? Whether on not you believe now, someday you will no longer have that choice. I pray that Steve won’t wait until he is suffering in the place that he was unable to believe existed. I pray that you will seriously consider it too. Thanks for your time.
