The devil is the author of discomfort and discontent; he will cause God’s people to forget their true place and purpose. So much of God’s plan is destroyed or left undone, not by the world, but by those that claim the name of God as their redeemer and savior. Being comfortable or discontent has no real place in the life of the Christian. Gaining what we see as desirable or needed will provide no solution to our dilemma. Having it our way only causes confusion and bewilderment. True peace in life can only be obtained by complete sacrifice and surrender. Discontentment only causes one to be self-serving and to place their needs before those of God. God has promised to meet our needs. When we just sit around and are unwilling to rely upon Him, we are not only causing ourselves grief, but are hindering the work of God. Always having to have it your way or not being satisfied with what God has intended is not a road to happiness; God will not bless those that do not put Him in His proper position and place. When you are told to take a number, it should at least contain two digits, God being number one. God is to be first and when we put Him there everything else will fall into place. Life can be difficult and unrewarding, but when we allow our discontentment to control us, it no longer becomes our problem; it is spilt out to dampen and destroy all that is around us. As a happy heart causes joy, the devil uses discontentment to defeat God’s intended purpose for our lives and those around us.
The working of God in the life of His child does not bring on discontent and an unhappy Christian is of no real use to themselves or to God. “Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content “(1 Philippians 4:11). If we never reach that point in our lives where we are willing to surrender all, then how do we expect to gain all that God has promised us? Absolutes do rule and with God it is all or nothing; He gave His all. Being dissatisfied or unwilling to do it God’s way has no real place in your service for Him. God will chastise those that are unwilling to obey Him. Telling God how things should be will never gain His favor; it will undoubtedly one day cause His wrath to fall. It is not the responsibility of God’s child to control the situations or circumstances; God is the only one that has the power or strength to do what is required. Humility in the heart of the believer is what God sees as lovely, He will reward all those that show Him His proper adoration and respect.
We as God’s children are not given the right or responsibility of supervision; we have been saved to follow. There are so many who have chosen to be rebellious and demanding but in doing so they have only assured themselves of impending grief and sorrow. The devil has deceived those with a thankless heart into believing they are what the agenda is about and that they must be heard. Somehow I feel it is past time that we open our eyes to see and our ears to hear what God is telling us. If we are to live happy, content lives we cannot be always allowing the negativity of this world to constantly buffer us. God has promised to be our refuge and strength, true peace comes from all things certain and assured, not deceptive and contentious. “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble” (Psalms 46:1).
