We live in a world of adversity, misrepresentation and total belligerence. The heart of man has been lied to, cheated on and otherwise treated with hatred and disrespect. We are given the command to be courteous and kind; or, as the Bible puts it, to “love one another” (John 15:12).
All around us we see a world that is crying out, not for the wealth and power as one might expect; but, for love. Truly, the one thing that is missing, the one answer or solution to every problem or difficulty, is the quality of universal, unrestricted love. Love joins what has been divided, turns bias and hatred into understanding and respect. Love takes away suspicion and doubt and creates an atmosphere of kindness and brotherhood. We search for love; and, even though it is all around us in the Spirit of a loving God, we cannot find it. Blinded by evil passion, the lust of the flesh; we look where it cannot be found, where it will not go. The love of God has no relationship or comparison to the lust and pride of this world. We are told in God’s Word not to love this world nor the things that are in it (1 John 2:15).
Yes, God’s love is unconditional, but unconditional love does not give us the right or permission to live any way we choose. The unconditional love of God is binding and restrictive. It is binding in the fact that when we accept Him and His love we become one of His children. Restrictive in that it takes us out of this world, cleans us up; and, as the Bible puts it, to walk in the newness of life (Romans 6:4). When we talk of unconditional, we talk of God’s desire and compassion to save, His intent or yearning that all should be saved (2 Peter 3:9). The unconditional part of God’s love over-looks language barriers, skin color, mental or physical handicaps; but, it does not overlook sin. It sets no standard or pre-requirements as to our state of being or social standing; it accepts or loves us as we are. The love of God is what gives the sinner hope and the redeemed a home in Heaven. How could anyone refuse such an awesome gift or doubt the eternal presence of One who has given His all? GLH MOM,LLC
